Akna y las Piedras MágicasWritten, Directed, and Featuring Original Music by Brizzo Torres
Akna y las Piedras Mágicas is a musical adventure inspired by Maya cosmology, where deities and ancestral wisdom are very much alive. Set in ancient Mexico in the Maya city of Zama, the story follows Akna, a young girl chosen by Kukulkan to restore balance after a devastating drought threatens her community.
Originally developed and performed with young student actors in Tulum, Mexico, the musical emerged from a desire to preserve and amplify indigenous stories. This production marks the musical’s first primarily English-language staging, while continuing to feature songs in Spanish and Yucatec Maya.

★ Program IN Action
The series features a variety of events such as the Starr Bazaar artist market, music nights, family-friendly activities, and participatory performances. Each event is free and open to all. Our vision for Summers at The Starr is to welcome people to our block to enjoy casual, joyful and social summer programming.
Community is at the center of the Starr, and the summer allows us the flexibility to offer a month-long celebration of local art and artists. By keeping the series free, accessible and interactive, the program deepens neighborhood connection, and invites new forms of cultural exchange.
