We are proud to partner with social justice nonprofit El Puente to launch a new annual extracurricular course in practical theater-making for local teens. Students in this program learn all aspects of the creation of performance-based works, including acting, writing, design, and technical skills, and collaboratively develop a piece to be performed at the Starr dealing with topics and issues that directly affect them and their communities. This program was created to be both educational and vocational—we hope to equip these young adults with a variety of skills that will prepare them for professional training programs and the theater industry if they so desire.

Our partnership with El Puente began in 2016 when we expanded our Big Green Theater program to reach high school age students and kids outside of the school system.
